New Venue for Bloc 2012...

Post by BLOCwknd »

Bloc has outgrown the Butlin's resort in Minehead, and after our euphoric fifth birthday celebration in March this year, is moving venues for 2012.

In these five years, you'll have come to learn what Bloc is.

It's a platform for the finest sounds your minds can comprehend, it's a maelstrom of sound and light so awe-inspiring it's often mistaken for the second coming and most importantly it is a forum for thousands upon thousands of big-hearted, open-minded Bloc family to make friends over and over again until the sun rises on Monday morning.

The holiday resorts that have played host to Bloc since 2007 are always in small seaside towns. The spectacular support Bloc has received over these five sold out years has always placed a huge strain on the local infrastructure. Minehead could simply no longer handle so many visitors having such a good time at such a high octane, high volume event over a single weekend.

As a result, it is no longer possible for the good people at Butlinʼs to accommodate us all, so Bloc is bringing forward plans for expansion into new, brighter territory.

Bloc is re-booting for 2012. The festival will be held later in the year, at a brand new venue that can house the state-of-the-art production and hi-fidelity vibes our Bloc family deserves. We can't wait to let you in on the details of Bloc's new home. As soon as we've got clearance to, we'll release this crucial info to the Bloc network.

Until then, thank you for your love and support these past five years of holiday park mayhem. We're already looking forward to stepping towards the light of the new Bloc epoch hand in hand with you, the Bloc family who made it possible.

Bit naughty taking bookings for 2012 so early after the last event? I booked a 6 birth gold apartment straight after 2011.
Not even sure if i am going to make these dates (when released), or how far away the venue is going to be? :(

The event went on sale before we realised we were moving. We have emailed everyone who has already bought tickets for 2012. Take a read and decide what you want to do.

WTF? Later in the year! How late? Not liking having to wait even longer!!!!!!

Second the no camping, this is supposed to be middle class raving, also no Bloc TV would be a huge fail.

Any way you could give us geographic area (north, south, etc...) would be nice to not to have to drive for a million hours (from Sheffield)

Boo :(

I hope there's no camping, couldn't be arsed with that.

But willing to see how things pan out.
Minehead has ran it's course, a change would refresh the experience.

Oh, just read on the Bloc Friendface post that it won't be camping:)

So it's definitely not Bultlins based?, Skegness is up the road from Bloc HQ and hosts "The Big Reunion" which is supposedly "the UK’s Biggest Indoor Winter Music Festival"....

I just hope all these changes are going to be an improvement as I was generally happy with the way it was, but as Euge says a "change would refresh the experience". I just don't want it getting too big and commercial.

I'm against camping and becoming bigger (and commercial) too.

Moreover Bloc Staff must choose a location near an airport beacuse from Italy it is already pretty long ;)

I'm pretty confident its not camping. Why would anyone lie on Friendface!
The most important info is dates. Whens it gona happen? I had big plans of going to see Euro2012 in the summer!

I really don't mind where it is.
Give me booze and a wristband..... and just point.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the change. Personally I quite liked Minehead - the comfortable and modern chalets, the aqua park, the beach nearby, the town itself was quite nice too. It wasnt the venue that stopped me from going last year, I guess I was getting a bit fatigued with an absolutely enormous lineup, with one-hour DJ sets each most of the time. I've said before I think the festival would benefit from longer stage time afforded to the artists, but I think I was in the minority. Running around from stage to stage every half hour to catch a bit of people playing turned me off going again.

But yeah, having been to Bloc and ATP now, I am absolutely finished with camping at festivals. Part of what makes Bloc great was the buzz in the chalets!

Where does the Freerotation festival take place?

The Free rotation festival is a membership only affair and as I recall they have stopped taking on new members now as the number of tickets does not increase upon year but the amount of people that want tickets does! some of my friends didn't get their membership approved and so could not go!

@ dublinstep

Freerotation takes place in midwales @ a place called baskerville hall.
We have in the past many moons ago held many a party there.

Its ideal for a small shin dig, has ok rooms (some very extravagant 70's style porn pads), dorms and enuff room for camping.

You have just missed the last event there in July. surgeons mix is here if you are interested

My 10p's worth
Im also confused that minehead has come to an end, is was perfect in many ways and having been to them all had a lovely homely feel about it.
the DJ slots do need to be longer mind, and the queuing was getting a pain in the arse but i would have gone next year to minehead no matter as its a chance to catch up withe everyone

I suppose a change is as good as a rest, i think bloc have gotta pull something big out of the bag to live up to mindhead

I cant help be a bit skeptical about the local infrastructure not coping with 5000 heads for a few days, when it seems to cope fine all the other months with holiday makers.
Im sniffing licencing issues for the usual reasons, i could be wrong but its screaming that to me and everyone else ive spoke to.

The downer is we were ready to book this month, but now with not knowing when and where its going to be held, alot of people are now scratching their heads as they don't know where they will be.

The timing of march was totaly perfect.

Were all a bit gutted
